Self-assessment Test
Ask yourself these questions and you will have a very good idea if you should start today on the program. If you answer yes to ANY of these then you are likely a perfect candidate for the program. If you answer yes to more than 2 of them then getting on the program could be a matter of life and death.
- High triglyceride level — 150 milligrammes per decilitre (mg/dL), or 1.7 millimoles per litre (mmol/L), or higher of this type of fat found in the blood (or you are on medications to reduce this)
- Reduced "good" or HDL cholesterol — Less than 40 mg/dL (1.04 mmol/L) in men or less than 50 mg/dL (1.3 mmol/L) in women of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (or you are on medications to reduce this)
- Increased blood pressure — 130/85 millimetres of mercury (mm Hg) or higher (or you are on medications to reduce this)
- Elevated fasting blood sugar — 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L) or higher (or you are on medications to reduce this)
